Claude’s Draw not Taken

The captains picked their own teams instead of the draw this site recommended. So here is the team match scored twice, from the same VPAR scorecards: once as it was played, and once as our draw would have had it.

Our draw had it at 45% against 42% before a ball was hit. See it in the Captains’ Room.

As it was played, Nomads won 6½–5½. On our draw, with the same scores, halved 6–6. Our draw would have been kinder to Martin and Jon, and harder on Chris F and Andy.

This is a parlour game. The second version never happened: nobody played those matches, and in a real better-ball you pick up, lay up or go for it depending on what your partner has done. The two draws also have different teams, so our Team A is not Hemel School and our Team B is not the Nomads.

How it's scored. Each hole is won by the lower net score (in fourballs, the better of the pair), and the match by whoever wins more holes; all square is a half. WHS matchplay allowances: 90% of course handicap in fourballs, 100% in singles, shots off the lowest. The small number by each name is that player's shots in the match. Results are given the way golfers say them (3 & 2 is three up with two to play); the holes-won count underneath runs over all 18, which is how the model on the teams page keeps score.
